- Welcome
to Bataka Underground Official Website.
- Ugandaz Hip Hop Founderz.
Ugandaz Hip Hop founderz-
Bataka Underground is the reason
you enjoy Ugandan Hip Hop. Ya'll know it's really been long coming,
but finally we made it. Ugandan hip hop is greater today than
it was years before. We guess the western world was still new
to us Ugandans unlike the eastern back then. It was really hard
to even talk about Hip hop and Rap as it was regarded to be Ghetto
and Gang musik. They didn't know Hip hop had more to tell than
just enjoying the beats. We believe people didn't really understand
the whole theme behind Hip Hop till today. They have been forced
to like it because they have no choice, international hip hop
has out sold other genres and still raising. We are expecting
it to even dig deep in the rural areas of the country now that
one can earn a dime.
-Why
did we go by the name Bataka Underground?
The answer is simple, the word
'Bataka' means natives. In otherwords we wanted people to understand
our background. We are all born and raised in Kampala, Uganda.
The term Underground simply means' "Not Commercial"
rather not mainstream like others might think.
-What
was our intention to introduce Hip hop?
It was and still is the same intention
of letting Ugandans know we're living in a new age. Uganda is
one of the few countries to have musicians talented enough to
compete on international level. We are happy to see the way people
embrace Hip hop today. We thought this could happen, but not to
an extent of receiving awards. We think it's been a break through.
-How
Bataka Underground was formed:-
The group was formed by three
members known as Babaluku a.k.a Sniperous Mcee now in Vancouver,Canada,
Krazie Native and Big Poppa Momo Mcee. The group was later joined
by Newton now in L.A, La raat now in London, UK, Lyrical G who
later joined Urban Thugs and eventually went solo. Chagga who
left and joined Chameleone as a background vocalist. The last member
to join was Shillingz who was known for his toungue twisting and
now based in Toronto, Canada. The last member to wave in was "Farious"
a Burundian born who also returned home.
I Unfortunately the group didn't
get to record there songs together, as most of us had left the
country. We are now in studios separately recording for our debut
compilation album.
